Mission

To educate and inform the public about critical safety issues and practices on our nations highways and promote professionalism in the trucking industry.

Objectives

  1. First: To raise awareness and educate the public about critical behaviors and practices that enhance highway safety.
  2. Second: To draw an active alliance between the public, the professional driver and law enforcement for improved highway safety.
  3. Third: To recognize and enable truck drivers with notable professional attitudes and practices. To draw drivers to this attitude of safety enhancing professionalism through membership in an organization that creates empowerment and positive peer pressure. [Truckers Alliance]

Our First Objective:

To raise awareness and educate the public about critical behaviors and practices that enhance highway safety.

With a broad and well crafted Public Relations Campaign designed to draw the general public attention toward these important goals:

  • Safer Highways
  • Courtesy and Respectfulness.
  • Road, Highway, and Interstate Skills and Conduct.
  • Public awareness of commercial vehicle size and weight, and the skills of the drivers.
  • Limitations of commercial vehicle performance, braking and maneuvering ability and the crucial need for the drivers to maintain safety space.
  • What is the basis and result of proper speed limits.
  • How speed relates to flow of traffic, road conditions and accident rates and why we should all adjust our speed and exercise patience and courtesy towards other drivers

In this campaign we will improve safety in regards to the general public operating vehicles on our nations streets, roads, and highways. A key focus will be more safely operating a vehicle around large trucks.

We will achieve this goal through:

Carefully crafted public service announcements and sponsored ads on safe driving issues. These would include print media, radio and TV. Many forums exist that are virtually untapped.

Our Second Objective:

To draw an active alliance between the public, the professional driver and law enforcement for improved highway safety.

To create outreach programs to schools and organizations promoting safe driving and truck awareness. Involve local law enforcement and personalities to present credible and usable information with entertainment and humor.

To reduce misunderstanding and antagonism that works against safe cooperative driving practices.

To bring together a select cross section of well spoken ambassadors from the trucking industry. These drivers would be educated on talking points, issues, facts and figures, trucking history, safety trends, communication and debate skills and personal appearance and would speak and educate in
forums such as:

  • Public and private schools
  • Parades
  • Media
  • Special events
  • Public gatherings
  • Safety enhancement / driver improvement programs
  • Driver education classes / programs

Our Third Objective:

To recognize and enable truck drivers with notable professional attitudes and practices. To draw drivers to this attitude of safety enhancing professionalism through membership in an organization that creates empowerment and positive peer pressure. [Truckers Alliance]

  • To raise the best drivers to greater status we propose to create a membership organization [Truckers Alliance] and a”Master Driver” program that attracts those with excellent driving records, positive attitudes and good reputation.
  • To further enable these drivers with notable professional attitudes, skills and practices and reinforce this with ongoing education.
  • To draw other drivers to this attitude of safety enhancing professionalism.

These positive efforts and programs would attract the best current drivers, inspire new drivers, and apply peer pressure on the “bad apples”.

These programs would include:

Safe Highway Conduct:

  • Courtesy and Respectfulness
  • Road, Highway, and Interstate Conduct
  • The importance of a Professional Image
  • Driving in someone else’s town, respect for others safety and property
  • Limitations of commercial vehicle performance, braking and maneuvering ability and the crucial need for the drivers to maintain safety space
  • What is the basis and result of proper speed limits
  • How speed relates to flow of traffic, road conditions and accident rates and why we should all adjust our speed and exercise patience and courtesy towards other drivers

Cooperation with law enforcement:

  • Build cooperative relationships with law enforcement
  • Truckers will be an ally in highway and public safety
  • Build mutual respect and positive interaction

An advanced skills training program that would include:

  • Skid pad training
  • Advanced driving exercises
  • Severe weather skills
  • Accident prevention
  • CPR and first-aid
  • Accident scene securing and assistance
  • Vehicle and roadside fire fighting
  • Victim extraction
  • Crime and terrorism awareness and reporting
  • Officer assistance
  • Search & Rescue and Runaway intervention

These programs would raise the level of Professionalism through awareness, education and group support and increase highway safety for all with positive role-modeling and peer pressure.
